Anybody who has tried to sharpen knives know that the best ways take a lot of time. That said, this sharpener does a reasonable job with minimal effort. The diamond wheels make quick work of flat edges and the polisher cleans up the roughness left over from the diamonds.
I tried it with one of my inexpensive knives that was already fairly sharp and made an improvement on how well it could cut paper. It's not going to wow anybody, but if you have a lot of knives you want to sharpen quickly, this works well.
Quality built product, and does a very good job on my kitchen knives. I have always struggled to sharpen knives, but at the same time, I hate using them if they aren't nice and sharp.
I've tried various manual "easy to use" sharpeners and still wasn't satisfied. That has changed with the arrival of this electric sharpener. It does a great job! I am well pleased!
It's intended for smooth bladed knives only, not serrated, but that's not a problem for me, since most of my serrated knives seem to hold an edge quite well, probably because they're not used every day, sometimes not even every week.
My husband likes the sharpener as well, and he's a former chef, so he knows his stuff when it comes to knives and sharpeners. We both give it 5 stars for quality and performance.
I have whetstones I use to sharpen my knives which have worked great up to now. Takes a while but tried an true method. This was a wonderful surprise. I have used several knife sharpeners and this electric sharpener is light in weight and easy to use. Each blade sharpened was as sharp as when first purchased and stayed sharp for several weeks before a resharpening was necessary. We also sharpened scissors with the same success. The different grit surfaces allow you to repair damaged blades, restore dull blades and then polish the newly sharpened edges. The guides hold the blade at a 15 degree angle for an optimum edge and fast operation. I was able to sharpen multiple kitchen knives and scissors in minutes.
Disclaimer: I'm not even close to a professional chef. But I do like sharp knives and I cook frequently. I just tried it on some of my knives. It seems to work better than what I used before. It will also be easier once I get some more practice. I'm looking forward to always having sharp knives from now on.
